Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Finally victory during solo play!
by surferthanos
After my fifth attempt, I won at Runebound playing solo. I was able to obtain three runes rather than have to face Margath. I learned to take more time and level up depending on the doom track of course. Great experience and plays wonderfully solo especially using Mr. Skeletor's solo rules.Still want to face Margath for victory! He has beaten me three times previously.
Going to try a multiplayer game with four people this weekend. Really looking forward to how it will play with others. I would assume a lot more strategy regarding when to tackle the harder decks and movement could become critical especially if there is an useful item or ally in the marketplace.

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Where to find Runebound Expansions
by Jonc83
Hi guys,We really like Runebound and just found out that all of the expansions have gone out of print.
I've been hunting around and found a few places that still have them, so I thought I'd share. As I am in the UK these are mostly European shops.
http://www.planetongames.com
Quite a selection of card expansions and three of the big box sets.
http://www.milan-spiele.de
A couple of the big boxes and some of the card sets.
I've also found a shop in Taiwan that has some of the card sets which I was thinking of ordering. If anyone else is interested in these they are about £10 ($15) delivered to the UK.
Runebound Terrors of the Tomb (2nd Edition Expansion)
Runebound Dark Forrest (2nd Edition Expansion) (FFGVA15)
Runebound Relics of Legend (2nd Edition Expansion) (FFGVA12)
Finally, if anyone has any advice as to where I could get any of the following for second addition, it would be appreciated!
Crown of the Elder Kings
The Scepter of Kyros
Drakes and Dragonspawn
Shadows of Margath
Artifacts and Allies

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Avatars of Kelnov impressions
by surferthanos
Hello,Although it is similar to the end game in Rise of the Dragonlords, I like how, without spoiling too much, certain events can impact gameplay during a later stage. Additionally, the red deck challenges are much more diverse and I highly recommend not looking at any of the cards to spoil any confrontations in the game.
Lastly, it is one of the cheapest expansions to buy usually going for under $15 on Ebay.
Definitely recommend it for a nice change and low price.

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Island of Dread too easy for solo play???
by surferthanos
I must be doing something wrong because I have played two solo games so far and won them both. I use Mr. Skeletor's Doom Track and I started on 18. The biggest problem I feel is the legendary items. They are extremely powerful, but I want to make sure I am playing the game correctly.1. Is there a cap for the number of Legendary items a player can have?
2. Can you use more than one Legendary item in one turn? For example,
I can use the book that hurts the main boss, use the Shield icon for defense and the automatic melee attack icon too.
I know they get discarded after use.
I can always create some House rules but I wanted to make sure I was playing correctly.
Thanks for the help.

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Runebound Midnight solo play...very challenging and fun
by surferthanos
Hello,Just finished my first solo play of Midnight using Mr. Skeletor's amazing solo rules. There is a feeling of dread playing this game which is captured extremely well through the game mechanics. Highly difficult to succeed. No allies and it is difficult to enter towns (have to succeed in roll check). As your character increases in levels, the patrols will spawn more quickly and can really overpower you.
I died when two patrols cornered me and attacked me one after the another. (both red challenges) I was very close to the stronghold with 3 black mirrors but just could not get there. Additionally, the doom track was on 10.
Looking forward to another game.
Side note: This plays much better solo than Island of Dread. I think IOD would be a much better multiplayer game than Midnight because playing evil side would not be too much fun.
Thanks

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: What to Play With Newcomers?
by J.L.Robert
I'm going to be leading a game of RB this coming weekend. I figure I'll have a table of 4-5 players, with at least 2 of them being first-time players.I wouldn't call myself an expert on the game, with maybe 5-6 games played total. But the game is mine, so I'm the host.
I also happen to have most everything for 2nd Edition. I have the 4 promo characters, plus the characters from DungeonQuest. I also have all 5 big box expansions and all but 2 of the mini expansions (missing the Battlemage and Artifacts & Allies).
So, my question is...what would be a good starting point for this group? Is the base game good enough? If we decide to play a second game, should I add any of the mini expansions or use one of the big expansions? If so, which ones would be the most newbie-friendly?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like i can get locally today Sands of Al-Kalim or Mists of Zanaga if i want...do they make the list? Are the small card packs worth $11.99?

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Question about rules + very cheap expansions
by TK firefly
Hello!I've got a question about Cataclysm, as I got it in english, and it's not my native language, I don't get one thing:
*Where do I put every curse deck? On market slots? If so, is it important on what city market do I place curse?
*As I see, some towns are destroyed, and some have curse on it, it is specified curse, so i have to take curse card from a specific deck, right? But there are 3 level 1 curses, 2 level 2 and 1 level 3. So if I succed making level one, do i take another level one, or skip them, and takie level two? I guess i skip level one, but how about different player? He has to make curse level one himself to roll level two, or is it enough that someone else did level one?
*When exacly can I visits market in a city (not a camp)? When level 3 curse will be gone? As I understand it happens so, and players pays less money for healing/buying as shown in manual, but am I right? Or maybe its enough to make at least level one gone? After that does market works normally (cards going to market slot), or like camps (no market slots)?
*After the markets are placed on towns, can players check which cities are destroyed, or do someone need to walk on city field to check?
*Can players try to make curse quest in the first turn? If so, players who started in destroyed city (if players can't know which cities are destroyed) got a harder job to do, as they have to find cursed city first.
And now something for you guys! As I found, english expansions are reaaaly expensive in "global" web (seen artifact and allies - around 250$ on ebay). However, in Poland english expansions are not so popular (as we got polish language version, but not of every expansion

(divide price in "zł" by 3, and you get price in $)

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Similar games?
by joestin
I'm relatively new to the hobby. This game looks right up my alley, but the lack of reprint info has me disheartened. What other games provide a similar experience to this one?Basically: fantasy theme, rpg like progression, and soloable. I own Mage knight and am aware of talisman... kind of thinking something that bridges those two in complexity. I've browsed around but want to see what this forums users think. Thanks!

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: New to Runebound: I miss subquests!
by Mailok
Hello! I am new to runebound (just the base set) and I played 4 games by now and I LOVE IT, it's one of the best fantasy adventure boardgame for me, but has a problem : sometime I feel myself just moving from gems to gems just to grind monsters, I would prefer more subquests, like in any good RPG videogames (Skyrim for example): a main quest and many subquests to give a reason to travel and gain experience/gold, this is the only thing I really miss from this game. I don't know if any of the expansions add subquests, are there more subquests in the expansions? is there a way (even unofficial variants) to bring in subquests?Thank you!

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Thoughts on Runebound's Future
by Montag451
There was a lot of hope, and many questions asked about the future of Runebound. Nothing very official was given. However, I actually think we have good reason to hope. As my friend says, these are tinfoil hat musings, nothing concrete.First, the big surprise was expanding the Terrinoth universe by setting BattleLore 2nd edition in that world. They are going to great lengths to turn Terrinoth into a big, expansive setting. Not just by updating previous games, but adding other games to the Terrinoth universe.
Second, Anton Torres (from FFG) keeps referring to Terrinoth as the "Runebound universe". This may just be an FFG thing since Runebound was the first, so they may just have a habit of calling to the Runebound universe. But the fact that they still associate Terrinoth that strongly with Runebound makes me seriously doubt that they're ignoring it.
Third, during the BGGTV live stream, Anton was asked about Runebound (twice), and first he simply dodged the question (about re-releasing it) by saying it's still available, just none on the website. The second time, he responded with "I wish I could tell you more." This may be serious tinfoil hatting, but it's possibly worth noting he said "wish I could tell you more" rather than "I wish I had something/more to tell you." He then teased the possibility of seeing something next year about Runebound.
It's a shame there was nothing this year, but seeing Terrinoth continuously expanded as well as fan support for more Runebound is a good sign. Take it for what it is, some tinfoil hatting.

Thread: Runebound (second edition):: General:: Best/worst type of expansion
I just got into Runebound and am a bit overwhelmed with all the various expansions. I was able to score all the big box ones for rather cheap but was wondering what is the verdict in the small ones? Which are the best to expand and add variety, which are not north getting? Are the character ones bad, what about items and allies? Seems people like the adventure ones best.
